NORMAN EBENSTEIN
FORMER PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER OF
CAPITAL COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES, INC.

Norm Ebenstein: About the Life of a CEO

Norman Ebenstein was born in New York City on the 23rd of October 1928. Jeanette and Samuel Ebenstein, the parents to Norm, relocated to Worcester, Massachusetts after the birth of their son, where they raised him to be proud of his Jewish background. Norm happened to be a proponent when it came to education, and he took much pride in his family member’s achievements.

Norm was the founder of Capital Commercial Properties, where he took on a role of the company’s president for five decades. He was also involved in creating various shopping centers, shopping malls, and residential properties. He was especially proud of the work he was involved in for Eden Center, the shopping district based in Virginia which served as the social and cultural mecca for people from Vietnamese heritage across the East Coast. Norm participated in a number of projects that will impact many people for years into the future. He has also played a significant role in many non-profit organizations along with the creation of the foundation that is focused on the encouragement of philanthropic activities.

Norm Ebenstein went to Phillips Exeter and later attended Brown University where he studied economics. He also played for the baseball team at varsity and was at the time a well-known pitcher. In his university years, he met Shirley Gorlick, where they fell madly in love and then went onto enjoy a 65-year marriage. Over and above the undergraduate degree that Norm obtained, he also went onto receive a degree in Law from Boston University. While he may have been very focused on professional successes, he was also involved in playing tennis where he remained active for most of his living years.

On the 20 December 2016, Norm Ebenstein passed away at 88 years of age. He lived an extremely full life, was loved deeply by family members, and admired and respected for his professionalism, intelligence, and charisma.

Norm left behind Shirley his wife, and his son and daughter, 2 grandchildren and his daughter-in-law. They all miss him a lot but have taken comfort in embracing the impact that this amazing man had on this world.
